PERFORMING ARTS PROGRAMS
FOR THE '20-'21 SCHOOL YEAR
INSTRUMENTAL
Our instrumental program is going to look a little different from previous years due to the COVID-19 pandemic and guidelines set up by the CDC and local government. In order to slow the spread and keep our students healthy, we've had to make a few adjustments to our band program as a whole, so instrumental instruction is going be largely centered around individual learning and small group playing. Here is what to expect:

In order to slow the spread and keep our students healthy, we've had to make a few adjustments to our band program as a whole, so instrumental instruction is going be largely centered around individual learning and small group playing. Here is what to expect:
- Instrument Fitting Appointment sign-ups will be posted outside of each participating classroom and fittings will take place during the school day. An "Instrument Guide" will be sent out to the entire school to make the choosing process for new students easier and minimize the risk of unsanitary "sharing" habits. Existing band students will have the opportunity to play their instrument from previous years.
- Students will still be allowed to meet according to their respective group's rehearsal time, however students from different classes will need to be social distanced from each other (i.e. 5th grade and 6th grade will still meet in the same space at the same time, but they will need to be on opposite ends of the space).
- All instruction and rehearsal will take place in a designated outside location until the ban on playing wind instruments indoors is lifted.
- Instruction will still be given from a beginner or advanced perspective depending on the student's playing level. An assessment is still required for players to be admitted to Cadet Band.
- "Demonstrations" will be scheduled in lieu of performances to showcase students progress. These will be done virtually until the ban on large audiences is lifted.
- New and reinforced cleaning guidelines will be strongly encouraged for our players. You can find out more about them here.
- Links to sign-ups for our Beginning and Cadet Bands can be found here on our Performing Arts website. Click here (but make sure you have been fitted first if you're a new member).
CHORAL
Choir is a program that has to be completely rethought due to the close proximity in which the students normally perform. In order to align with the suggestions and guidelines set up by local government and the CDC, we at Calvary have decided to transform the program for the '20-'21 school year. While it may not be a traditional choir, we will still be singing and THAT is what is important! Here is what you can expect:
Choir is a program that has to be completely rethought due to the close proximity in which the students normally perform. In order to align with the suggestions and guidelines set up by local government and the CDC, we at Calvary have decided to transform the program for the '20-'21 school year. While it may not be a traditional choir, we will still be singing and THAT is what is important! Here is what you can expect:
- In observance of the school guidelines regarding separation of classes, students 4th-8th grade will have the opportunity to form individual "Glee Clubs" within their classes. These singing groups will be limited to only the students sharing the same classroom teacher (or in the same grade for Junior High) and they must have eight committed singers from that class to form a Glee Club.
- Each Glee Club will meet separately from each other at least once a week (or more if the schedule allows).
- All instruction and rehearsal will take place in a designated outside location until the ban on singing indoors is lifted.
- The Glee Clubs will sing more modern pieces than are normally found in choir (i.e. modern worship songs, Broadway tunes, oldies, etc.).
- "Demonstrations" will be scheduled in lieu of performances to showcase students progress. These will be done virtually until the ban on large audiences is lifted.
- Students participating in Glee Club that wish to wear a mask will be required to purchase a RESONANCE Singer's Mask (or similar product) in order to perform in the group. Click here to find out more about the product.
- Sign-ups will be posted outside of classrooms on Mon. Oct 5th so make sure to get your child signed up if they wish to participate in a Glee Club.
